How to Make Leather in Deep Dish Dungeon: Animal Hides

How do you get leather in Deep Dish Dungeon?

Open every chest you pass. Leather turns up as loot along the route to the hammer, including a chest that also holds a bone club. If you haven't reached that area yet, the hammer route through the Entrance Campsite gets you there.

Clear a slot before you go. Early on you only have a handful of inventory spaces, and it's easy to arrive at a chest with nowhere to put the leather.

Spend that first piece on the workbench. It's the station that unlocks leather crafting, so everything after it gets easier.

How do you make leather from animal hide?

Build the workbench, then craft leather there from animal hides. Rats give you both raw meat and animal hide.

Build your workbench first

The workbench costs 1 leather, 2 iron rods and 3 wood planks. Open the crafting menu at camp and pick Workbench.

Collect hides and craft leather

1. Catch rats as you explore.
2. Break each rat down into raw meat and animal hide. Keep the hide.
3. At the workbench, pick Leather and craft it from your hides.

Why is the leather recipe missing from the workbench?

You need to pick up a piece of leather first. Holding animal hide alone won't show the recipe; once real leather has been in your inventory, the Leather entry appears at the workbench.

How do you equip armor?

Armor doesn't go into a separate gear slot. Keep it in your inventory and it counts as worn, which means every piece of armor takes up one of your limited slots.

The leather armor recipes are at the workbench: Crude Leather Armor, Leather Armor and Padded Leather Armor. The same menu has the Pouch (2 leather + 2 vines), which adds 3 inventory slots and is worth making early if armor is crowding your bag.
